Gaining muscle can be an arduous task, especially if you’re not sure how you should go about doing it. With that in mind, research might actually be the best way to gain muscle. By research I mean knowing how the body works and applying that knowledge to your workout routine. But that’s not really an acceptable answer, is it? You’re probably looking for that one technique that’ll turn fat into muscle. Well, unfortunately, it doesn’t really exist. There are still plenty of effective ways to gain muscle, and I’ll list them below for the purpose of research, but there is definitely no “best” way.
When looking to gain muscle, you need to realize how your muscles actually increase in size. They increase because the cell receives a ton of microtears that must heal. When they heal, the muscle becomes larger and more powerful to adapt to the same stimuli again. This takes time to complete and full recovery could take more than a week. Excessive workouts will not tear the muscle additionally and will just waste your energy.
You can apply the knowledge from above to come up with some solid muscle gain techniques: intensity and rest. If you work at a high intensity for a short period of time three times a week, you’ll see incredible muscle gains, especially early on. Your workouts should last no longer than 45 minutes and should contain very heavy, high intensity lifts. Some of the best exercises to use for this technique are the bench press, squat, and deadlift. These are lifts that will put a lot of strain on your muscles and will support huge muscle gains!
So far as rest goes, you’ll want a solid 8 hours of sleep each night. By solid, I mean deep and peaceful. Restless sleep isn’t as good for your body as a deep sleep is, so you’ll want to sleep as soundly as possible for maximum muscle gains. While rest is important, you’ll also need to eat plenty of food to help repair your muscles more quickly and effectively. The less food you eat, the slower you’ll gain weight and the more slowly you’ll recover. Protein is the nutrient with which your muscles repair themselves, so make sure you get plenty of it.
